Getting Started

How do I create my first Shard?

  1. Open Shard and you'll see the capture screen
  2. Type your thought, use voice, camera, or share extension
  3. Shard Intelligence automatically categorises it
  4. Tap Save to store your capture

What are the four capture methods?

  • Text: Type thoughts directly with smart prediction
  • Voice: Speak naturally and get instant transcription (Pro)
  • Camera: Extract text from photos using VisionKit
  • Share Extension: Capture from any app system wide

How does Auto Sort work?

Shard Intelligence uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models to automatically categorise your captures as Tasks, Notes, Ideas, or Events. This happens instantly and entirely on your device.

What is Shard Intelligence?

Shard Intelligence is our suite of AI-powered features built on Apple's Foundation Models (iOS 18+). All processing happens on-device for maximum privacy and speed.

Which features are included in each tier?

Pro tier includes:

  • Smart Categorisation (auto-sorts into Task, Idea, Note)
  • Contextual Tags (extracts topics and entities)

Ultimate tier adds:

  • Voice Auto Polish (removes filler words)
  • Date Extraction (detects dates for reminders)
  • Daily Digest (morning summary of captures)
  • Export Formatting (smart formatting for Obsidian/Notion)

Does Shard Intelligence require internet?

No! All AI features run entirely on your device using Apple's Foundation Models. No internet connection is required, and your data never leaves your device.

Integrations

How do I connect Notion?

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Notion
  2. Tap Connect and sign in to your Notion account
  3. Select the database you want to sync with
  4. Configure field mapping for categories and tags

Note: Notion integration requires a Pro subscription.

How do I export to Obsidian?

Obsidian export is free and uses URL schemes:

  1. Select the Shard(s) you want to export
  2. Tap Share → Obsidian
  3. The note will be created in your chosen vault

Ultimate users get smart formatting that preserves structure and adds metadata.

Which integrations are available?

  • Free: Obsidian (via URL schemes)
  • Pro: Notion, Tana, Apple Calendar, Apple Reminders
  • Ultimate: Todoist

iCloud Sync

How do I enable iCloud Sync?

  1. Go to Settings in Shard
  2. Find iCloud Sync
  3. Toggle it On

Your Shards will automatically sync across all devices signed in with the same Apple ID. Requires Pro or Ultimate subscription.

Is iCloud Sync secure?

Yes! iCloud sync uses Apple's CloudKit framework with end-to-end encryption. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in your private iCloud account, and only accessible by you.

Why aren't my Shards syncing?

  1. Ensure you're signed in with the same Apple ID on both devices
  2. Check that iCloud Sync is enabled in Shard Settings
  3. Ensure you have an internet connection
  4. Go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud and ensure iCloud Drive is enabled
  5. Try toggling iCloud Sync off and on again in Shard

Privacy & Security

How do I enable Face ID or Touch ID?

  1. Go to Settings in Shard
  2. Find Biometric Lock
  3. Toggle it On

The app will require Face ID/Touch ID when opened after being in the background.

Does Shard collect any data?

No. Shard is privacy-first:

  • All data is stored locally on your device (or in your private iCloud)
  • All AI processing happens on-device
  • We don't collect analytics, usage data, or personal information
  • We don't use third-party tracking or advertising SDKs
  • We never share your data with anyone

Troubleshooting

Why is my purchase not working?

This can happen for several reasons:

  1. Check your internet connection (in-app purchases require an active connection)
  2. Restart the app (close Shard completely and reopen it)
  3. Check Apple System Status
  4. Sign out of the App Store and back in (iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Media & Purchases)

If the issue persists, please contact us with the exact error message.

The app keeps crashing

Try these steps:

  1. Force quit the app (swipe up from the bottom and swipe Shard away)
  2. Restart your device
  3. Update the app (check the App Store for updates)
  4. Update iOS (Settings → General → Software Update)
  5. Ensure you have at least 1GB of free storage

If crashes continue, please contact support with your iOS version and device model.

Voice capture isn't working

  1. Ensure you've granted microphone permission (iOS Settings → Shard → Microphone)
  2. Check that Speech Recognition is enabled (iOS Settings → Privacy → Speech Recognition)
  3. Restart the app
  4. Ensure you have a Pro or Ultimate subscription

Subscription & Billing

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

  1. Sign in with the same Apple ID on your new device
  2. Open Shard
  3. Go to Settings → Subscription
  4. Tap Restore Purchases

How do I cancel my subscription?

  1. Open iOS Settings
  2. Tap your Apple ID at the top
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Find and tap Shard
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription

You'll retain access until the end of your current billing period.
